DARE!! doubles facilities

Today is the extension of the building at Vijzelmolenlaan 7 deliverd in Woerden. The expansion is a doubling of the number of square meters and tripling of the content. In the new building are two large anechoic chambers and the existing OATS is situated at a height of 14 meters on the roof.

Why expand?

Until today, the three DARE!! companies used three industrial buildings at businesscentre Middelland.
The building at the Pompmolenlaan is rented. the decision to rent this property is taken out of necessity because the requierd EMC measurement capabilities were suddenly failed. Since construction of such a term could not be realized, was decided to hire. Altough the distance between the two buildings was only 300 meters, still it had major disadvantages.Transporting equipment took much time and the life of the equipment was not  better. In addition there was the desire to OATS on the roof to a higher location to avoid unwanted reflections.

Extension

Besides building on Vijzelmolenlaan 7 was still succicent room for expansion. At this site is new construction built. The existing building ws 1 storey high. The expansion is three floors high. This was necessary to place anechoic spaces en to position the OATS at the highest possible location. Besides 7 additional office space and a large hall, takes the meethal the most space. In this room are two large anechoic rooms and a cage of Faraday place. Ech of these spaces has its own laboatory. Also on the groundfloor is a mechanical workshop create.

Floor load

Because of the extremely heay objects (up to 10 tonnes) is an extremely heavy foundation chosen. There are more and thicker piles used (30 x 30 cm) and the foudation itself is heavier. In one of the anechoic rooms is the floor double solid, that makes placing objects in the space easier.

Same Style

The desing has sought the extension to keep the same style as the existing building. So is used the same type of stone and the windows are identical. As a result, the view looks like a whole and not directly the impression that the new building is glued at the old part of the building.

Integrated

Both buildings are fulle integrated. For instance, the corridors, altough with a rod, are trought the whole building. This means that the new lift (the old building didn't had one) is accessible for both new and old area. The central staircase walks up to trought the roof.

OATS

The sheet(12 x 20 m, 16.5 tonnes) of Open Area Test Site is already in construction time from the roof of the existing buidling to the roof of the new building lifted. The plate ss now situated at a height of 14 meter and in the lenght the OATS has no longer obstacles which could cause unwanted reflections. Because the height aroud the OATS is a safety net placed. It is not possible because of the reflections  of the OATS to provide fences.

Project

Withpreparations for the project were started thre years ago. Because the height should there is waived from the zoning that causes the notorious article 19. The construction itself was launched late in 2008. The actual construction is build in less than a yea.

Completion

Altough the building is now completed we are still busy by working on the device. The anechoic room has to be moved from the rented building and there is still a protected area to be placed. After that the walls are placed,  the carpeting is placed in the laboratory areas and finally the remaning floor space will be proviced by a layer if epoxy coating.

Facilities

Once the entire project has been completed DARE!! has besides the general  meeting venues also four anechouic measurement rooms, two screened rooms and a OATS/antenna calibrations site. It is sufficient at the moment to even the projected growth, to demand the meet.
